Dr. Paul Monaghan is an associate professor in the Department of Agricultural Education and Communication (AEC) with an appointment in the Center for Land Use Efficiency, which promotes the protection and preservation of Florida’s natural resources and quality of life through responsible landscape management. He specializes in community-based social marketing and utilizes the methodology to develop research and Extension programs with the clientele of CLUE.

He is a three-time alumnus of the University of Florida. He earned his bachelor’s degree in 1982, studying political science, before receiving his master’s in Latin American studies (1989) and his doctorate degree in anthropology (2000).

Dr. Monaghan has conducted extensive research with farmers in Florida, including dairy, organic and vegetable producers as well as nursery and fernery operators. He also comes to AEC with experience working with migrant farm worker communities and has spent time in Haiti conducting anthropological research.

Dr. Monaghan’s research focuses primarily on social marketing. More specifically, he combines community based research with social marketing as a tool for environmental behavior change, improving health and safety in the agricultural workplace and reducing the environmental impact of  residential landscaping.
